Gate Of Heaven Cemetery

The Gate of Heave, Front Gate Development for this cemetery began in 1966 with the recognition that Saint Michael Cemetery was rapidly filling, was land-locked, and had no place to expand. Completion of the cemetery was in 1971. Originally conceived as a memorial park [flush markers only], cemetery management quickly discovered that this approach would not meet the needs of Catholics and their families. Having adjusted to the monument cemetery tradition, this facility has performed over 5,800 interments. It is a 212 acre facility with approximately thirty developed acres. Gate of Heaven currently has in-ground burial in flush memorial or upright monument lots. With changes to the family burial tradition, the Gate of Heaven Cemetery developed in 2002 the Saint Mary Section specifically to accommodate two grave monument lots. This is a beautiful park like setting which has been our most popular in-ground burial option. Rounding out the burial options at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, the Springfield Diocesan Cemeteries, Inc. approved the construction of Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum in 2006. This facility has the capacity to hold over 2,000 full bodies and cremated remains. This monumental structure with its white steeple reaching into the skies and stained glass window, reminds us of our faith in the resurrection, is truly a work of art. The mausoleum was completed in 2008.
